Amelia is a talented but unacknowledged artist who fears repeating the fate of her single mother. She feels that for happiness and success, she only lacks money and the perfect partner who will support her, not be a burden. After yet another argument with her boyfriend, she shouts in frustration: “If only you were an ATM, I’d be happier!”
In the morning, she wakes up – and her boyfriend has actually turned into an ATM!
Now Amelia has the life her friends envy: an unlimited card, shopping, private auctions, and a “boyfriend” who always agrees with her. No fights, no scattered socks, just the pleasant rustle of banknotes. She bought success, she bought fame, she bought comfort. But when real trouble strikes, she discovers that money doesn’t know how to hold your hand…
A film about the loneliness of modern people.
A story about the illusion imposed by social media, where happiness is measured by the price of a ring, the view from a hotel room, and the number of likes. She wanted to live like “on Instagram” — and got a perfect world where everything can be bought… except love and support.
“My Boyfriend is an ATM” is a satire on a generation that confuses wealth with inner self-sufficiency, because in modern culture, if you are rich, you don’t need a partner. What is the point of a man if he can easily be replaced by a stack of cash? Especially since he doesn’t act the way we imagine in our dreams!
We strive to make life and relationships “convenient,” removing everything complex and alive. But having gotten rid of the chaos, we are left alone with a cold function.
